About the artist: Wendy Dolan

Wendy Dolan is a fellow of The Society of Designer Craftsmen, The Sussex Guild of Designers and Makers, The Embroiderers' Guild and the crafts Council Maker's Index.

Qualified with a B.Ed. degree and a diploma in Creative Embroidery. She exhibits and sells her work at exhibitions and shows nationwide. Specialising in freehand machine embroidery and related creative stitching techniques, she offer a range of courses, lectures and workshops. Living close to the South Downs, the landscape provides a constant source of inspiration for her stitched textile designs.

'My current theme, 'A Sense of Place' records memorable journeys and locations, using fabric, stitch and texture. Architectural structures, textures, and patterns also provide a wealth of ideas which I enjoy exploring. I record my ideas with sketch, torn paper collage and my camera is always on hand.'

  • Day 2: 17 Mar 2023 [FRI] ARRIVE AMRITSAR

    On arrival in Amritsar: Having cleared immigration, collected your luggage and passed through customs, please make your way towards the exit of the terminal building where you will see a bank of people waiting. Amongst them will be Aahilya Holidays representative who will be waiting to greet you with a paging board with your name on.

    He will assist you with your transfer to your hotel and assist you with check in.

    Standard check in time at all hotel is 1400 hrs.

    Post dinner you will have an opportunity to visit the Palki Ceremony at Golden Temple

  • Day 3: 18 Mar 2023 [SAT] AMRITSAR

    Morning group will be taken for the walking tour of Old Amritsar and later visit Golden Temple , Jallianwala Bagh.

    Partition Museum (Closed on Mondays & National, Public Holidays) and Wagah Border

  • Day 4: 19 Mar 2023 [SUN] AMRITSAR

    After breakfast, you will be taken to the nearby village to experience the the making of textile products in Punjab.

    Phulkari – This art origins from the early parts of 19th century when the odhini or head cloth was highlighted with embroidered flower works.

    Jutti (Embroidered footwear) - One of the styles of footwear that has continuously evolved due to numerous influences and many variations according to regional tradition.

  • Day 5: 20 Mar 2023 [MON] AMRITSAR - DALHOUSIE

    Today bid farewell to Amritsar Punjab and proceed to Dalhousie in Himachal Pradesh (200 Kms / 6 hrs Approx.) where upon arrival check-in at your hotel.

    In the afternoon explore the local market at Dalhousie and admire the colonial heritage of Dalhousie at St. John’s Church and St. Patrick's Church. (This will be optional & if time permits)

  • Day 6: 21 Mar 2023 [TUE] DALHOUSIE

    Breakfast is at the Hotel.

    Today you will be driven to the Chamba (55 kms / 02 hrs – one-way) wherein you will see the making of world famous Chamba Rumal or handkerchief which is an embroidered cloth.

    Later visit the Laxmi Narayan Temple.

    Dinner & Stay overnight at hotel.

  • Day 7: 22 Mar 2023 [WED] DALHOUSIE - DHARAMSHALA

    This morning drive to Dharamshala (145 Kms / 5 hrs Approx.), where upon arrival check-in at your hotel.

    In the afternoon visit to Tibetan Handicrafts center located in Mcleodganj which consisting of looms where Tibetan artisans make carpets with Tibetan designs.

    A half-day work shop will be organized on any of the following art forms prevailing at Norbulingka:

    1. Thanka sketching

  • Day 9: 24 Mar 2023 [FRI] DHARAMSHALA

    This morning you visit the Kangra Fort built by the royal Rajput family of Kangra State (the Katoch dynasty), which traces its origins to the ancient Trigarta Kingdom, mentioned in the Mahabharata epic.

    In the afternoon return to Dharamshala to visit Tibetan Museum - The missions of the Tibet Museum is to inform about the Chinese occupation of Tibet,

  • Day 10: 25 Mar 2023 [SAT] DHARAMSHALA - MANALI

    Post breakfast you will be driven from Dharamshala to Manali (240 Kms / 08 Hrs Approx.)

    An option to take lunch en-route at mid-way restaurant in Mandi area (on direct payment basis). Later continue drive to Manali.

    This morning you will drive to Kullu (50 kms / 01.30 hrs one-way), where you will visit the Bhuttico - Weavers Co-Operative Society which is a very premium unit and have won several National awards in handicrafts.

  • Day 12: 27 Mar 2023 [MON] MANALI

    Breakfast is at hotel.

    Today we will have a workshop of a product called Pula – Dried trips of cannabis grass or buckwheat stem are converted into rope-like form and then strengthened by a process of twisting and stretching it.

  • Day 13: 28 Mar 2023 [TUE] MANALI – SHIMLA

    Today you will be driven from Manali to Shimla (265 Km / 08 Hrs Approx.)

    An option to take lunch en-route at mid-way restaurant in Mandi or Bilaspur area (on direct payment basis).

    Upon arrival check in at the Hotel where remainder of the day will be at leisure to relax.

    Breakfast is at your hotel.

    Morning enjoy a sightseeing tour of Shimla. Begin with a visit to the Vice regal Lodge, visit to Shimla State Museum later visit Sankat Mochan Temple.

    After breakfast, you will be transferred to Shimla railway station to board the toy train till Kalka. Himalayan Queen Toy Train (1035 / 1610 Hrs) with Packed Lunch.

    At Kalka, you will connect with the Shatabdi Express train for Delhi Kalka New Delhi Shatabdi Express (1745 / 2155 Hrs) with Packed Dinner.

    Upon arrival in Delhi, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

  • Day 17: 01 April 2023 [SAT] DELHI

    After a leisurely breakfast visit The National Handicrafts and Handlooms Museum commonly known as National Crafts Museum which is one of the largest crafts museums in India run by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. (Closed on Mondays & National Holidays)

    Later proceed for an orientation tour of New Delhi followed by a visit to the Dilli Haat.

    Dinner & Overnight is at the hotel.

  • Day 18: 02 April 2023 [SUN] DEPART DELHI

    Today after breakfast, at appropriate time, you will be transferred to Delhi airport to board flight to your onwards destination / London.
